After the town hall meeting at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe, I had the opportunity to speak with General Steele of Smif-N-Wessun about the reasoning behind conducting the meeting, his inspiration to create Amerikkka's Nightmare Part 2: Children of War, emcees using political and social views as gimmicks, and more.
*It is very refreshing to not only hear someone (note: someone with great intelligence) in the hip hop community speak about social awareness, but to see the words spoken being acted upon and actively attempt to bring about real change and prosperity. Rappers, take notes.

The Nuyorican Poets Cafe in NYC was the host to General Steele of Smin-N-Wessun's town hall meeting titld "Change Starts From Within." The evening began with trailers being played for the film titled "We The People" and for the song "Child Of War." Following the trailers, Steele then went into readings from Thomas Paine and Dr. Martin Luther King. Black-and-white pamphlets were handed out to those in attendance of books and movies which Steele said inspired the creation of Amerikkka's Nightmare Part 2: Children Of War.
Here's the trailer for "We The People" which will be released with Amerikkka's Nightmare Part 2 on February 23, 2010.
