Exclusive Interview With Eternia

I guess I need my fix of Eternia today...not a bad thing whatsoever...here's an exclusive interview with the emcee, where she epeaks about the Canadian hip hop scene, the hiatus between full-length projects, how shallow comments don't affect her and more.

Brother Ali Live At Highline Ballroom NYC At The "Stimulus Package" Release Party

Bother Ali is one of my favorite emcees and to see him perform is really something special. Exclusive Interview: Reks--Part 2 of 2

StreetFM WUSB 90.1 Live On Justin.tv Tonight

Check out Ike Infamous, Keese MP, Mickey Knox, DJ Six 3 One, and "The First Lady" Felicia on Justin.tv tonight (or just stay locked in here, the show will be embedded on the blog), for some pure, authentic hip hop music (and of course some questionable, erratic behavior and comments that can be expected from the show...can't be mad at that). StreetFM is from midnight-3 a.m. on WUSB 90.1 if you're listening (stay awake and enjoy the show--sleep is overrated anyway).

R.I.P. Big L (May 30, 1974-February 15, 1999)

It is hard to believe that D.I.T.C. emcee and Harlem native Big L died over 10 years ago. Listening to The Big Picture, his flow, his wordplay, his delivery, all sound fresh and brand new, not dated whatsoever. His reputation as one of the greatest emcees in hip hop history has never been argued and with good reason; it's the truth and cannot be debated. He always held his own with anyone he rhymed with (from his mentor Lord Finesse to Jay-Z, who he brought to Stretch And Bobbito's radio show before he became the Jay-Z the masses are familiar with today). Memorable verses? He has them. How many emcees today have the guts to say that they "pistol whip a Priest every Sunday" ("Devil's Son") or have exceptional wordplay to create lines like "they wanna know why I'm so fly/a girl asked me for a ring and I put one around her whole eye" ("No Endz, No Skinz")? Although his life was taken at the age of 24, his music lives on--and there is no better way to celebrate his life then to listen to what he did best. Here are a few of my favorite songs from Harlem's finest emcee.

Exclusive Interview: General Steele of Smif-N-Wessun

After the town hall meeting at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe, I had the opportunity to speak with General Steele of Smif-N-Wessun about the reasoning behind conducting the meeting, his inspiration to create Amerikkka's Nightmare Part 2: Children of War, emcees using political and social views as gimmicks, and more.

*It is very refreshing to not only hear someone (note: someone with great intelligence) in the hip hop community speak about social awareness, but to see the words spoken being acted upon and actively attempt to bring about real change and prosperity. Rappers, take notes.

KRS-One X Donny Goines X Eternia X Jah C & The Antidote Southpaw Show Recap

Due to the 9-to-5 and lovely NYC traffic (sarcasm is such a great thing), I missed a majority of the Eternia set (still mad today), but I did manage to take some photos of all the other acts of the evening. Check out the video (with music accompaniment by Donny Goines).
