Footaction on 34th Street in NYC is the place to be Thursday, April 1 as sneaker artist Fetti D'Biasi will be customizing a pair of sneakers live from 4-6 p.m. Power 105's DJ Prostyle will be spinning live for the event, and a pair of customized sneakers will be raffled off.
Friends to the blog (and super-talented individuals) emcee J The S and video director Court Dunn collaborated on yet another video, this time for "Handcuff Sex" off of the emcee's latest album, Wish You Were Here. The video features the ever-beautiful porn star, Jayla Starr (yet another reason to watch the video). Hey, since we're all friends, anyone want to pass Ms. Starr's phone number my way? (*hears "NO!" emphatically screamed from a distance*)...hey, it was worth a shot...
Doug E Fresh definitely lives up to his moniker, The World's Greatest Entertainer. Here are two videos from his recent performance at the Crazy Donkey with Big Daddy Kane.
Long Island emcee (and legendary emcee Rakim's nephew) just shot me an email with his latest release, The Welcome Mat, available for free download. Definitely worth a listen, check it out.
Watch live video from streetfm on Justin.tv I will be on WUSB 90.1 StreetFM live tonight with the entire StreetFM family (Ike Infamous, "The First Lady" Felicia, DJ Six 3 One, DJ Mickey Knox). Long Island rhyme veteran Diabolic will be on the air for an interview and freestyle. Check the show out live on Justin.tv/StreetFM.
Being bored at work can often breed creative thought and spawn...well...some dope shit. Here are two videos I created from my photography from ESSO's shows at 92Y Tribeca and BLVD in NYC over "Young & Ignorant" and "Misunderstood."
I love when I look at my BlackBerry and find an email from an artist that makes good (no, GREAT) music. Here is the first single from ESSO off f his upcoming release, The Anti-Socialite titled "New York, New York" produced by Rena1ssance.
I'm a couple days late on the post for this (internship is beating me down, but NO EXCUSES), but this needs to go up. The homie Jinesis sent this over to me, a new project of remixes and more titled My Thoughts Exactly. The project and has already made its way onto many blogs, including one of my personal favorites, 2Dopeboyz (yeah, I show love to those sites doing their thing, no need to be greedy). Definitely download this, its worth a listen.
This thursday the Crazy Donkey will host an old-school hip hop event you don't want to miss as legendary emcee Big Daddy Kane and The World's Greatest Entertainer Doug E Fresh will hit the stage (brought to you by Terence Trend Inc.). Here is an exclusive interview with Providence, Rhode Island emcee Jon Hope. Here the emcee speaks about the Rhode Island hip hop scene, linking up with Statik Selektah, the origins of "Talk To Me" with Skyzoo and Reks, Some Kind Of Wonderful and more.
Three-quarters of the slaughter took the S.O.B.’s stage on the anniversary of iconic Brooklyn emcee Notorious BIG’s passing. Royce Da 5’9”, Crooked I and Joe Budden appeased a packed crowd of avid, rowdy fans, many of which were donned in the ever-popular Slaughterhouse t-shirts designed by Sneaktip Clothing. West coast veteran Crooked I was the first Slaughterhouse emcee to take the stage, along with members of the California collective, Horse Shoe Gang. During his set, the Long Beach native performed, while blindfolded, “Tequila, Vodka, Henny” an ode to alcohol over the Lloyd Banks and Juelz Santana instrumental, “Beamer, Benz, or Bentley.”...
J The S and Donny Goines made an appearance Monday night at Stony Brook University's radio station, WUSB 90.1, to famed hip hop show StreetFM. Here is the freestyle session that all those listening were treated to. Much respect to DJ Mickey Knox, DJ Six 3 One, "The First Lady" Felicia, DJ Phantom and Ike Infamous.
I've interviewed people in a variety of places, from hotel rooms to backstage at concerts, but never in a tattoo parlor—until this past Sunday. Detroit rhyme veteran and one-quarter of the supergroup Slaughterhouse Royce Da 5'9" gave me the opportunity to chop it up with him at Fort Apache Tattoo Studio in NYC, while being tattooed by the owner of the shop and famed tattoo artist Grin Stylez. Here's some photos from the evening—interview with Nickel-Nine coming soon.
I know I'm a few days late with this but I still have to show love to friend of the blog, J The S. Here is a link for a free download to his latest album, Wish You Were Here.
Crooked I is definitely one creative emcee. Here he is performing "Tequila, Vodka, Henny" over Lloyd Banks and Juelz Santana's "Beamer, Benz, Bently" instrumental...blindfolded, while members of his COB crew handed him shots. This is definitely worth a watch or two.
Royce Da 5'9" is one of the greatest emcees of all time-here's why. This is an a cappella freestyle from his show at S.O.B.'s with Crooked I, Emilio Rojas, J The S, Donny Goines and more.

I am a fan of all genre's of music, even though indie hip hop is what I listen to (and subsequently, cover) the most. I recently had the pleasure of attending a concert at Southpaw in Brooklyn, NY (hands down, one of the best concert venue's in NYC) for Imelda May. This woman is amazing; her voice is so soulful and her live show is incredible. For those unfamiliar, here's a little video of what this tremendous talent is capable of.
New York emcee Donny Goines has released his long-awaited EP today, 20X. The project, released in conjunction with streetwear brand Rocksmith Tokyo, features production from M-Phazes, 6th Sense, Versatile, Apple Juice Kid and more.
Only Sean Price can pull this off. Decepticon Sean welcomed friends, family and fans to Santos for a performance and baby shower for his daughter, Shaun Price, due later this month. The leadoff picture here is definitely my favorite, as the emcee shouted out fellow Boot Camp Clik member Steele of Smif-N-Wessun for getting his daughter his favorite gift, "Decepticon" socks. Check out some photos of the night below (All Photos By Peter Verry).
Here is part two of the interview with up-and-coming emcee Donny Goines. Don't forget 20X, the collaborative project with streetwear brand Rocksmith Tokyo releases tomorrow!
With the release of his collaborative effort with streetwear brand Rocksmith Tokyo, 20X, coming out this Thursday, it's only right to give the emcee let the world further know who he is. Here is part one of my exclusive interview with Donny Goines (part two will be here tomorrow).
Only Sean P can do this. Tonight at Santos in NYC, Sean Price will be having a baby shower and performance for his daughter, Shaun Price, soon to be welcomed into the world. A gift for his daughter or gifts off of his registry is required for entrance.
Up-and-coming emcee Donny Goines will be releasing his collaborative project with Rocksmith Tokyo titled 20X. To get you ready for what the emcee is capable of lyrically, here's some live footage from WUSB 90.1 StreetFM, Southpaw and 92Y tribeca.
Hope you enjoyed the show review on BeyondRace.com, now here's some footage from the show. Prior to the show I wasn't fully aware of Gabriel Toedros and his music, but best believe when he was done on stage I definitely decided to get myself very aware of what he does. My personal favorite song of the night, here's "Third World Wide" off his latest album, Lovework.
Snowfall and bitter cold temperatures did not stop hip-hop aficionados from making their way to Brooklyn, NY’s storied and intimate concert venue, Sputnik, to attend Canadian emcee Eternia’s “At Last We Got a Record Deal Jam.” Fans, friends and family (many of which flew in from Toronto for the occasion), gathered for the celebration of her recent record deal signing. The dedication and support of Eternia could be immediately seen entering the venue, as an overwhelming majority of those in attendance were proudly wearing the emcee’s "My Favorite Rapper Wears A Skirt" t-shirts...
Street-wear guru (and close personal friend) H.D. (check him out at Goliath in Harlem) was featured on holamun2.com, the Web site for popular Spanish television station Mun2. Definitely check out his style because dude knows what he's doing.
